Announcing the Mixson Assembly Arboretum

Mixson Assembly Neighbors,

Mixson is a special community in the heart of North Charleston. Mixson Assembly governs about 31 acres at the edge of Park Circle, with over 10 acres of the community dedicated to parks and green spaces.

The Mixson Assembly parks are a testament to the Association’s commitment to conservation, urban forestry, health, wellness, and livability. It is my goal, as Association President, to lean into our most unique features and see Mixson Assembly flourish.

I have been in the process of seeking creative sources of funding to help us preserve and grow our community, without placing any extra financial burden on our residents.

It is my pleasure to announce that Mixson Assembly has recently been certified as an accredited Level 1 Arboretum by The Interactive Community of Arboreta (ArbNet) and The Morton Arboretum.

Mixson Assembly is one of only two registered arboreta in the Lowcountry and is the very first community arboretum in South Carolina that is governed by an association of homeowners.

We are now part of an exclusive group of global arboreta, which will help to support Mixson Assembly in fostering community among all neighbors and to set us apart as a premier Park Circle neighborhood.

The Mixson Assembly Arboretum will benefit the community in the following ways:

  • Access to grants and outside funding sources for planting and improvements
  • Added protection for all parks and green spaces from unwanted development
  • Fun community events, activities, and educational programs
  • A reputation as a leading and desirable South Carolina community

The mission, vision, and goals of the Mixson Assembly Community Arboretum are simple: preserve, protect, enhance, and nurture our city, our community, our neighbors, and our local wildlife.

I encourage you to read our Arboretum Mission, Vision, and Plan. Stay tuned for future announcements and updates for events, along with ways you can get involved!

Warmly,

Trever Etminan
